About the route and the event

Trailwalker started in 1981 as a training exercise for the Queen's Gurkha Signals on the MacLehose Trail in Hong Kong, opened to civilians in 1986, and moved to the South Downs when the Brigade moved to the UK. It is now run by The Gurkha Welfare Trust with the Queen's Gurkha Signals.

Teams of four start in waves from 6am at Queen Elizabeth Country Park and follow the South Downs Way east over the chalk to Brighton Racecourse, meeting their support crew at nine manned checkpoints spaced roughly 6 to 13 km apart. A hot meal waits at Checkpoint 7 for the night section. The team record is 9 hours 23 minutes, set in 2024.

Checkpoint names and distances here are approximate, based on the usual Trailwalker course.
